I do 5 at a sitting to eliminate boredom

Here's a strategy I use to get TONS of backlinks to my sites. I call it Backlink Building Wheels.

Step by step:

1. Write an article for an article directory like ezinearticles.com or GoArticles.com (here's a good starter list of article directories). I like goarticles.com because it's quick, easy, and the search engines love it. Place one link in the body that points to a page or post on your site. At the end of this, you'll edit this article to complete the wheel. But for now, just place one.
2. Write another article that is similar to the first one and publish it in a blogger.com blog (free easy setup). In it, place two links – one to the page your want to promote (the SAME page as in #1) and one to the actual article that gets published in #1.
3. Write another article, this time on Live Journal. Two links – one to the same page on your site, the other to the article in #2.
4. Repeat 5-8 times. I use GoArticles.com, blogger, Live Journal, Squidoo, hubpages, and wordpress.com.
5. Go back to #1 and put in another link – this time to the LAST article you posted, thus completing the "Backlink Building Wheel."
6. Using social bookmarking services like ping.fm, promote all of the articles above.

This is a very productive strategy for getting relevant backlinks to your site. It may sound cumbersome, but once you get the hang of it, you can create one of these wheels in less than 15 minutes. Time well-spent for getting quality backlinks, if you ask me.

This strategy works well with other backlink building services such as Angela's Backlinks. Simply use #6 to promote the relevancy of each backlink you get.

In the past, I've always gone to the old search standby, google, when looking for images. It's always worked sufficiently.

However, I recently started using bing. It's the revamped search engine from Microsoft and it's wonderful for finding suitable pictures and other images for your blog, sales pages, etc. (always make sure you follow the copyright rules). The cool thing about a bing image search is that seemingly endless relevant search results appear. There is no endless paging through 10 results at a time. You just scroll down the page until you find what you're looking for.

The results are far more relevant and it's so much easier and quicker to find exactly what you're looking for.

Seesmic Blog: We've acquired Ping.fm. Get ready to update 50 social networks from Seesmic

Here are my specific tweaks:

1. I use NameCheap for my domain name registrar. I usually find a slightly better price on .com names here than at GoDaddy. I do have some legacy Godaddy-registered domain names, but all my new ones are coming through NameCheap. They also have monthly coupons that give you a little discount (usually about $1 off the current $9.69 price).

   I will say that I've never had problems with either of them.

2. For web hosting, I use BlueHost. They're very similar to HostGator.
3. Support is very quick and updating name servers between either GoDaddy or NameCheap and BlueHost is extremely quick (minutes not hours). Again, I've never had a problem with these folks.
4. For installing WP, I used to use Fantastico, until I tried SimpleScripts. It's a part of my cPanel on BlueHost. I'm not sure if HostGator uses SimpleScripts, but if they do, I highly recommend them.
5. I have used many themes over my blogging lifetime and I have to say that I'm semi in love with the Headway Theme. I bought the developer version months ago when it first came out so that I could use it on all of my sites. I love it. And the enhancements they've made to the product are awesome, most notably the visual editor, where you can change virtually anything and everything without writing or changing a bit of code. It works with all of my current plugins, too. I cannot recommend this one any more highly.

   I have used, and continue to use, many of the free blog themes that are available, but I'm slowly switching all of my WP sites to Headway. It's just so much easier using one theme and then tweaking it to make it unique – I love learning one system, perfecting it, and then "rinsing and repeating."

6. Keyword research is the most important thing you can do when building a brand, site, and especially a niche site.
7. WP customization. The most important thing I do here is install some really effective plugins, the most important of which is Jeff Johnson's Traffic Getting SEO Plugin^TM 2.0 – Free Version. You will have to sign up to his mailing list to get the plugin, but I highly suggest you do it; besides, Jeff is a traffic and SEO master. You'll love his how-to videos.

   Jeff's plugin actually incorporates quite a few plugins (it's kind of like a meta-plugin) and then tweaks them to perform optimally together.

That's about it! Now, get out and do it!!!

So we improvised.

Here's how to create a simple video from software you may have laying around. Like Powerpoint and Adobe Premiere Elements (Elements is really inexpensive and you can use a Powerpoint substitute like the one in OpenOffice). Any presentation program will work as long as you can save or export each slide as an image (JPEG or PNG for two examples).

It's a 3 step process:

1. Make your slides and export them as .png (or .jpg)
2. Import them into Premiere Elements and make the movie. Create transitions, do voice over with a $10 microphone that you can plug into your PC, and save as an AVI file.
3. Upload to YouTube

If you want to get real fancy, you can import music too. Add titles, graphics, etc. Plus, you can embed links in the video such that when a user clicks on a link, he's taken to your website. This would entail Step #4:

Once your video is "on the air," tell everybody through Facebook, Twitter, Ping.fm, etc. and hope it "goes viral."

If it does, you could very well see hundreds, if not thousands, of hits to your website.

You can use videos to drive people to your own site, an affiliate site, or to a squeeze page to capture their contact info. The possibilities are endless.
